Campaigners against the Bexhill-Hastings Link Road converged on the Department for Transport in London this afternoon (Mon 4 Mar) to deliver an ultimatum to transport minister Norman Baker.

The ultimatum

The ultimatum

The ultimatum, inscribed in a slice of a tree cut down by contractors in the Combe Valley in January, states that “unless the Department for Transport’s redacted recommendations regarding the Bexhill-Hastings Link Road are released by 5 April, we the people will return to peacefully release this information ourselves.”

The delivery of the ultimatum marks the start of Operation Disclosure, a month of escalating peaceful actions designed to get the DfT’s recommendation on the link road made public. Forthcoming actions include “Blow the Whistle on the Link Road” at the DfT’s Information Rights unit in Hastings on Monday 11 March, calling for public-spirited members of the DfT to leak the Department’s recommendations about the Link Road.

After barricading themselves inside their own building and refusing to come out to accept the ultimatum, the DfT finally allowed one person into the building to deliver it!
